Lula Rock, Le Jardin d’ Antoinette and Style:Nordic open at Palais

Singapore, 30 January 2012 – Palais Renaissance, the definitive address to exclusive offerings, announced today that Lula Rock, a multi-label boutique is its newest tenant. In March, Palais will also welcome Le Jardin d’ Antoinette, the quintessential Parisian pâtisserie and salon de thé (tea room) and restaurant and Style:Nordic which relocates its showroom from Delfi Orchard to Palais Renaissance. The mall’s intimate size provides an environment that defines its “mall charm” where shoppers can enjoy the ultimate personalised experience, only at Palais.

Palais’ uniqueness lies in its focus on exclusivity and quality where mall tenants offer services and experiences that are available only at Palais. The synergy of the new tenants are well placed to match the needs of Palais’ affluent and discerning shoppers, and further define Palais as a luxurious, intimate and exclusive shopping destination.

Borne out of a love for fashion and dressing up, Lula Rock (#02-07) showcases classic yet edgy designs from emerging designers as well as international cult labels. Some of the brands that can be found at the shop include Sretsis, Alice Mccall, Karla Spetic, Aje, Matina Amanita, Stolen Girlfriends, Lonely Hearts and Borne.

“We take pride in the designers that we represent, but above all, getting our customers to love the brands we carry and enjoy the shopping experience is the Lula Rock Motto. It’s about having fun and enjoying putting together new looks for every customer!” said the girls of Lula Rock.

Inspired by the renowned Château de Versailles (Palace of Versailles) and its lush gardens, Le Jardin d’ Antoinette (#B1-08/09/10C) will open its doors in March 2012. The restaurant will comprise four different areas: La Boutique showcasing Antoinette’s exquisitely-crafted confectionery and pastries, Le Jardin furnished with Versaille gardens-inspired touches to evoke the feel of a secret garden, Le Salon d’ Antoinette offering an intimate space accentuated with details like floral print upholstery and wallpaper and Le Salon l’Elysee which evokes a boudoir feel with a brass chandelier as its dramatic centrepiece.

Shoppers looking for a respite from the Orchard Road crowd can seek comfort with the tea-room’s extensive all-day dining menu that encompasses savoury specialities as well as luxurious pastries and confectionery. Definitely the destination for the quintessential Parisian dining experience!

Style:Nordic (#B1-02A) promotes inspiring solutions by composing an appealing portfolio of Scandinavian design brands for the home, office and the individual. Its new showroom at Palais will open in mid-March and will offer its highly affluent, well-travelled and fashionable customers the characteristic, multi-sensory Scandinavian experience.

“Our new location is more in line with our high-end profile, aiming to create a sense of uniqueness. We have high expectations on moving to Palais Renaissance, which is a mall characterised by destination-oriented visitors. We believe our loyal customer base will feel very much at home when visiting our new showroom,” said Victoria Karlsson, owner of Style:Nordic.

Palais’ tenants offer personalised and bespoke services where shop owners are usually more than happy to share their vast knowledge or their design inspiration behind each product or service. For the discerning shopper, each visit to Palais may reveal a new insider tip or unfold a new enchanting story, which helps deliver a level of intimacy available only at Palais.

- END –

Youths for the Community: Helping 50 low-income households in Boon Lay prepare their homes for Lunar New Year

Led by Boon Lay CC Youth Executive Committee (YEC), its Community Service Interest Group (CSIG) and the Youth Club @ Boon Lay and equipped with mops, paintbrushes and brooms, 250 volunteers will refurbish the flats of 50 households on 7 and 8 January 2012 in FACELIFT 2012, all in time for Lunar New Year festivities.

2 Into its third year, FACELIFT’s volunteers will repaint walls of flats for low-income households which cannot afford paint or help those with difficulties cleaning their own homes. For some, it simply means providing them with a comfortable sofa to rest on or a plastic storage container. Grassroots Adviser Mr Lawrence Wong, Minister of State for Defence & Education and Member of Parliament for West Coast GRC flagged-off participants for FACELIFT 2012 on 7 January 2012.

3 Leading up to FACELIFT 2012, Boon Lay CC YEC volunteers conducted a needs analysis in October 2011 to understand the conditions of more than 200 families. FACELIFT 2012 departs from the usual student-volunteer recruitment formula by focusing on drawing volunteers from among the beneficiaries’ neighbours.

4 Mr Kelvin Woon, a YEC member and the Organising Chairperson of FACELIFT 2012, explains, “I think it’s a great chance for the residents to get to know more people. Now that the project is running into its third year, the next step to improving it is having residents help their neighbours.” Mr Michael Ho, a teacher and resident volunteer, agrees, “This is the first time we have students from the FACELIFT Organising Committee going door-to-door to invite residents to join in. It is a good outreach in that sense.”

5 A briefing session was held on 17 December 2011 for volunteers, where resident and student volunteers mingled and played bonding games, as well as got to know Boon Lay better through an ‘amazing race’ designed to take them through the neighbourhood. An ‘yu-sheng’ party is also planned for the evening of 8 January 2012 for recipient households to bring in the Lunar New Year festive spirit.

The PAYM models as an organisation that aims to integrate fresh and new initiatives to meet the needs of our youths (12 – 35 years old). We seek to keep abreast with ever-changing youth patterns by extending outreach to youths through a wide range of activities such as community service projects, life skills and lifestyle programmes, adventure and sports, arts and cultural activities. More importantly, PAYM’s programmes and activities create common space for youths regardless of race, religion and educational backgrounds to interact and bond. Established in 1971, the current overall membership is about 312,000 spread over 101 Youth Clubs based at the Community Clubs/Centres (CCs).

The PAYM activities and programmes offer our youths the exposure to the following on-going challenges – the maintenance of social cohesion and racial harmony, effective two-way connectivity between the people and the government, and leadership renewal in the grassroots and other community organisations. The PAYM facilitates the building of social capital amongst youths and through youths, and hopes to inspire the spirit of Youth for Youth, and Youth for Community.

Singapore, 5 January 2012 – City Square Mall, owned and managed by City Developments Limited (CDL), is pleased to announce that it has added Golden Village (GV) as an anchor tenant. GV City Square will be located on Level 5 and has already commenced construction with the cinema’s anticipated Grand Opening by the end of 2012.

The entertainment destination will have a total seating capacity of more than 1,000, where its six halls will have stadium seating, digital projection and sound, and will screen the latest blockbusters.

The opening of GV City Square is another major step forward in the transformation of the mall, and a move that has been eagerly anticipated by residents in the area.

“We are excited that Golden Village, Singapore’s leading cinema exhibitor has decided to build their newest multiplex here at City Square Mall. The addition of a cinema allows us to offer more entertainment options and we are confident that GV City Square will definitely be a draw for mall visitors to enjoy the latest blockbusters,” said City Square Mall’s spokesperson.

“Golden Village is delighted to be opening our 11th cinema at City Square Mall at the end of the year. City Square Mall, serving the neighbourhoods of Little India, Boon Keng, Lavender, Kallang, Moulmein, Balestier and Thomson, is located in a unique catchment area populated by a growing middle class. With over 500 carpark spaces, easy underground access from Farrer Park MRT station and close proximity to town, we’re confident that GV City Square will bring movies closer to residents living in south-central Singapore”, said Mr. Kurt Rieder, Chief Executive Officer of Golden Village.

In anticipation of the new cinema, City Square Mall has organised a contest titled “Are You a Movie Buff?” where shoppers can test their movie trivia. Printed on the hoarding outside the cinema are popular movie phrases where visitors to the mall can try to guess the movies the phrases originate from. The top 10 entries with the most number of correct answers will win $100 shopping vouchers each. Entries should be sent to csm1@cdl.com.sg by 30 June 2012.

New tenants that have set up shops at the mall recently include Barbacoa, a new barbecue concept restaurant by City Satay, MakeShake, a customizable milkshake concept shop and Hot-Star Large Fried Chicken, the first Singapore outlet of the popular franchise from Taiwan’s Shilin Night Market.

Designed as a miniature ‘town-centre’, City Square Mall provides the perfect setting for the community to meet, shop and play while enjoying an eco-learning experience. For the community living in the area, many who walk through the reconstructed New World gate at City Green (park) will recall the vibrant history of the former New World Amusement Park and with a new cinema opening at City Square Mall, the mall will once again be a hub of life and entertainment for those in the Jalan Besar neighbourhood.

– END –

Rachel C. Atelier opens boutique at Delfi Orchard alongside bespoke jewellery stores that cater to both first-time buyers and experienced gem collectors

SINGAPORE, 5 January 2012 – For women of all ages, jewellery is still the top choice item that will please and enhance one’s overall look, while commemorating a special occasion. With Valentine’s Day coming up, consider visiting Delfi Orchard’s bespoke jewellery stores to shop for a gemstone to mark the occasion, and be enthralled by exquisite jewellery as shop owners share their stories of love and romance.

Purchasing gems and jewellery can be a magical experience, filled with excitement and anticipation. Sometimes, one can find it challenging to buy jewellery due to lack of knowledge and a costly mistake may arise as a result. At Delfi Orchard, novice and connoisseur jewellery buyers are guaranteed a different experience entirely as knowledgeable shop owners share their passion and expertise with customers looking to find that special gemstone.

Gemstones that Dazzle

For a special evening, one should visit Rachel C. Atelier (#02-08), a couture jewellery shop opened by a popular name among Singapore’s elite, Rachel Cheng. The shop portrays a whimsical flair, allowing one the opportunity to escape into wonderland. Laying eyes on Rachel’s one-of-a-kind designs is tantamount to discovering a magical moment where life and love converge.

With over 15 years of experience in the fashion and jewellery industry, Rachel’s couture jewellery designs are adorned on fashion runways in Europe, and are well sought after by socialites. All the jewellery in the shop is handmade and each piece is a work of art. Many of Rachel’s designs are made of Zirconia, a diamond substitute, which has more sparkle and mineral hardness than any kind of crystals and are normally used for costume jewellery. Other main elements used by the label are gemstones and natural pearls. Luxury boutiques that have partnered up with the label include Ann Teoh (Singapore), Heng Nam Nam (Singapore), Walter Ma (Hong Kong), Hoffmann am Neuen Wall (Germany), Uschi Sander (Germany), Roberto Avolio (Italy), Rosmarie Amacher Couture (Switzerland) and Van Vianen (Netherlands), amongst others.

Gemstones to Romance

Confetti by Mui (#03-23) is a great place to start shopping for personalised engagement rings and wedding bands. Having evolved from being a forerunner of a traditional wholesaler cum retailer in gold ornaments and jewellery since 1974 into a private jeweller specialising in customising jewellery, Confetti by Mui places great attention in the making and finishing quality. The shop is managed by Leon Lek, a certified gemmologist together with his designer wife, Mui who help customers design custom-made jewellery. Leon shares an anecdote about how Mui designed a pair of asymmetrical earrings for a customer looking to buy a romantic gift for his wife to commemorate their first year anniversary as well as their first pregnancy. The design of the earrings is symbolically shaped where one side portrays their eternal love and the other side, his pregnant wife.

Gemstones for Pleasant Memories

For anyone looking for exquisite jewellery pieces to admire and keep with fond memories, Benny’s Gems Creations (#01-10/11) offers discerning customers the finest service and mix of carefully chosen products. The shop’s owner, Benny Lum, has over 30 years of experience where he first started working in his family’s goldsmith shop. After getting his certification as a gemmologist, Benny set up his shop in 1994 and in 2005, moved it to Delfi Orchard. His standalone shop sells certified diamonds, gemstones, in addition to earrings, necklaces and rings, and he also helps customers design bespoke jewellery.

A graduated gemmologist (GIA) and jewellery designer since 1981, Benny is deeply passionate about helping his customers find the correct jewellery to make them look beautiful as “it’s a fulfilling experience to know that my customer will have good memories of her wedding day whenever she wears that piece of jewellery.”

Gemstones to be Treasured

For those looking to create new family heirlooms, or looking for rare gemstones, The Canary Diamond Company (#01-12 to 14) is the place to visit. An embodiment of family ties and love, the shop is run by experienced jewellers William Lam and his wife, together with their son, Steven and his wife, Lum May Yee. The name ‘Canary’ was inspired from William’s combined adoration for the golden yellow diamond, nature and bird photography.

Located at Delfi Orchard since 2000, the Canary Diamond Company has built a reputation as one of Singapore’s most trusted family jewellers, known for their exquisite jewellery and quality gemstones sourced from around the world. The shop frequently gets requests from customers to help redesign pieces of jewellery passed down from their grandparents or parents. “Usually our younger customers would want to maintain the character of the jewellery, but at the same time, achieve a more modern and fashionable look by changing the gemstone, or perhaps creating new forms of jewellery,” shares Steven.

The wedding day, a child’s graduation, a gala dinner, birthdays or anniversaries – these are all occasions when something that sparkles adds to that magical moment where memories will be enshrined in the heart. From fashionable gemstones to timeless diamond pieces, a jewellery piece conveys love, romance and beauty and is a great personal keepsake to mark that special occasion. Discover love and more, at Delfi Orchard, the destination for all of life’s special moments.
In celebration with the People’s Association Youth Movement (PAYM) 40th Anniversary, 15 Youth Executive Committees (YEC) from the North West District have come together to organise “Cycle 2011”, a cycling event on Saturday, 10 December. On the same day, Grassroots Adviser Mr Arthur Fong, Member of Parliament (MP) for West Coast GRC, Grassroots Adviser Mr Alex Yam, MP for Chua Chu Kang GRC and People’s Association’s Chief Executive Director, Mr Yam Ah Mee will take part in “Ride to Sunrise”, a night cycling event organised by 20 grassroots organisations including South West District YECs and Community Sports Clubs (CSCs) and Pioneer Community Centre’s (CC) Community Emergency and Engagement Committee (C2E).

2 Cyclists participating in “Cycle 2011” will travel along the new Northern Explorer Park Connector Network to explore and experience the rustic charm of the north. Yet to be officially launched, the Park Connector Network takes cyclists to parks, such as the Bottle Tree Park, Khatib Bangsu Park and Admiralty Park, reservoirs including the Lower Seletar Reservoir and Upper Seletar Reservoir as well as other scenic waterfront locations in the northern part of Singapore featuring unique species of plants and wildlife, including migratory birds. “We wanted residents to get up close with the diverse flora and fauna that can be found just at their doorsteps. We chose to cycle on the Park Connector Network so that the participants can get together and enjoy the greenery through a healthy activity.” says Ms Ismawati Bte Khamis, 35, Chairperson of the organising committee and member of the PAYM Central Youth Council.

3 Later in the evening, “Ride to Sunrise”, a night cycling event will see more than 250 youths cycle around Singapore. Celebrating PAYM’s 40th anniversary and the CSC’s 35th anniversary, the night cycling activity brings together residents across all ages, with the eldest participant being 75-year-old, Mr Zainudeen Shaul Hameed. “This is the first time we are organising a cycling on such a large scale, in collaboration with the other GROs which allowed us to tap on each other’s expertise such Pioneer CC’s C2E’s first aid skills. We felt that it would be a good platform for cycling enthusiasts to come together, as well as take the opportunity to promote the importance of safety on the roads.” shared Mr Lim Zhi Wang, 23, from The Frontier CC YEC who is leading the organising committee.

4 The PAYM and YECs have organised more than 15 sporting events in conjunction with its 40th anniversary celebrations, and hope to continue using the platform of sports to continue engaging youths and the community, whilst encouraging the leading of an active lifestyle.

About People’s Association Youth Movement (PAYM)

The PAYM celebrates its 40th Anniversary in 2011.

The PAYM activities and programmes offer our youths the exposure to the following on-going challenges – the maintenance of social cohesion and racial harmony, effective two-way connectivity between the people and the government, and leadership renewal in the grassroots and other community organisations. The PAYM facilitates the building of social capital amongst youths and through youths, and hopes to inspire Youth for Youth, and Youth for Community.

About the Community Sports Clubs

The Community Sports Clubs (CSCs) are part of the People’s Association network of grassroots organisations. There is a CSC in each constituency and the CSCs are managed by volunteers who work with the PA to organise sports activities for the residents to promote social cohesion, racial harmony and community bonding.
